Career and technical education is crucial in providing strong workforce training and is also vital in restoring economic health of the nation. The programs of these institutions produce strong educational returns, strengthen student engagement in school, increase achievement in academics and technical skills, and assist in creating a smooth transition from high school to post-secondary education and from education to careers.
Career and technical related jobs are in high demand. According to Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, approximately 30% of the 46.8 million job openings in 2018 will require some college or 2-year associate degree. Of the jobs requiring post-secondary education, those requiring associate degree are predicted to grow by 19%. About one in six jobs paying above minimum wage will require an associate degree or post-secondary training of some kind. Participation in skills-training programs increases wages and earnings, raise probability and consistency of employment, and lead to work in higher-quality jobs.
